The Millipede in Valletta.

While brainstorming a couple of months ago on what Morphogenesis is, I immediately thought that I wanted to do something which shows a certain movement or flow.

Part of our task was to design something which is modular, a shape or a form we can repeat for all the bus shelters throughout the valletta terminus.

I first Began researching on Morphogenesis.
I went trough cells, the human body , wind , sea , rain , water, sound . . .

I thought of what thing reminded me of interesting movements ( flowing, form ) , and I somehow thought about Millipedes.
I started looking trough insects with an elongated shape and the Millipedes was the one which most attracted me to look further into.

A few weeks ago Ms Louise Agius together with Mrs Rice showed us a documentary about two artists which presented a two week long installation in New York.
Apart from the installation being very interesting, one thing which caught my eye was the final result.
Basically big orange rectangular drapes where hung throughout the whole park in New York.

At the end of the Documentary people who somehow saw how this installation looked from above, said that they looked like blood veins across the whole park.
This is an example of how I would like the response of my final result to be.

I want to create an effect of a creature moving in the Bus terminus of Valletta. Not in the obvious kind. Though in portraying the forms of the Millipede.

I divided the insect in its natural segments and altered them for an interesting design to serve a bus shelter purpose as well as my idea of a moving creature.

Therefor ! After all this,
I began experimenting on 3D Studio Max.

Before showing Just my final design or where I got to, i wanted to show also how I did it  by putting up images of my step by step path to how I got there.

Creating arcs to form my desired shape.

Cross section & Surface Technique

Section - Creating Shapes

Deleting Surface and leaving the shape created.

Making the segments thicker.

The final result of this drawing. I was mostly experimenting on how I was going to manage to portray the shape I desired. Though the next step was to create two different sections for two different shapes as i would like to fit in perspex in between each segment.

On each layer of perspex I would enhance the insect wing texture with wood.

Second Outcome.

Alternating shape for a different outcome

Created two surfaces for Wood and Perspex segments.

Side View.

Showing how I separated the two segments so that I could create the texture of the insect wings on the perspex.

I am currently working on the overall shape and how I could create a form which will look more interesting visually when the bus shelters are combined. I want them all to have a different form but at the same time I want to make them connect together to form the ' Millipede.'

Will post up images when it's finished.
Till then . . . Good Luck to Everyone !

Cosmetic Packaging Unit 12.

Sometimes inspiration comes when you least expect it.
A few months ago my sister was given a pandora bracelet as a gift before she went to work abroad.

Its amazing how much this bracelet meant to her when she left.
Basically the idea of having a pandora bracelet is to decorate it with charms depending on ones likings. ( Or they could also be given as a gift. )

You could insert many charms or else change and insert the ones you want before you go out.

For one of my concepts of Toly Cosmetic Packaging I wanted to create something easily portable as a Pandora bracelet which gives the user the liberty of choosing which ones
to buy , which ones to use and which ones to choose for that specific day or event.

How the Concept works.

1. You buy one of the circular rings depending on your liking.  ( Size, material, color ) . I was thinking of ranging it to at least 4 options.
2. You will have 3 collections from where to choose from.  A colorful one which changes every year depending on fashion change - Teenage market. A gold one which ranges to the mid 40's and elderly market or those with a higher budget. And also a sleek simple one which everyone could opt for.
Now Consumers could chose which products to buy to add to their Ring.

                                                        Make it  board during Presentation.

Nowadays women compete with other woman on everyday bases, including what bag they have , what make up they use , what clothes they buy and much more.
With this product women could also compare there rings to each other on which product they bought and how its looking.

The idea of creating such a design was also to eliminate the use of the make up bag.
Personally, I carry my make up bag around everyday, though I barely use 4 products in all.

With this concept i could just insert the ones i would use on that day and put it in my hand bag, hang it or clip it inside with a zipper or anything of the sort.

The way the product is used is like how we use our keys from a key ring. Actually, its just like having a set of keys, but this way your having a set of cosmetics.

                                                            Another inspiring factor.

( The compact cosmetics could also be bought as gifts from another person just like the Pandora concept. )
